“Tabitha Stevens at Posh Nightclub”
This is the wide shot of Posh Nightclub in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tabitha is up there on the pole. It was extremely dark in here and to light it with strobes would have killed the ambience so…. I made 3 exposures at Normal, +2 and -2 with the camera locked down on a very heavy tripod, then I brought in my strobes (3) and put Tabitha up there to do her thing.
In post I simply made an HDR output with the three bracketed images then opened that in Photoshop. Then I opened the Tabitha photo (which has all my lighting strobes in the shot right next to her! I copied the Tabitha photo then pasted her into the HDR background shot as a layer on top. I converted the Tabitha layer into a mask then painted Tabitha back into the HDR layer eliminating all the lighting gear.
The key to making all this very simple is that I shot the original with the camera locked down. It’s a perfect match and since there are areas of dark shadows in the background, the blending is really easy.
So there you have it. I don’t do a lot of composites but I really like this one. If you go to my GARY ORONA GALLERY and see it much larger, it really pops.
